In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree

Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea.

- Samuel Taylor Coleridge 1772-1834

The XANADU icon was adapted (seriously tweaked, that is) from this photograph, originally shot by Jim Duncan (jduncan@netaxs.com), titled "El Castillo at Dawn." It shows the Temple of Kulkukan, or El Castillo, a "Toltec/Maya" pyramid located in the ancient ruins of Chichen Itza, Yucatan, Mexico. Jim Duncan is the author of a remarkable and intriguing site on the Web, Wandering through the Yucatan. We heartily encourage you to visit, enjoy his story and photographs, and sign his guestbook. Thank you, Jim, for courteously permitting us to use your photograph.
