Carl will probably give you access to his old diary, and then....
UPDATE: August 2001: Carl is formatting his writings about the coming of the Republican National Convention to San Diego in 1996. email - - - carlwilson@freeze.com

Thanks, Dano, for giving me the space to talk about my work. I... well, without saying too much, I work at City Hall and sometimes write about it. No, I always write about it. But only sometimes do I let anyone see what I've written. Reading yours and Michael's Tijuana Gringo has made me want to publish some pages ["The Elephants Are Coming, the Elephants Are Coming!"] I wrote back in 1995 and '96, when I was working for the mayor. But... it was a difficult time for me. I had just been married and it WASN'T working out. She screamed and yelled a lot and we got separated. Not the Mayor, I mean my new wife Lynne. Meanwhile I started screwing up at work and my boss -- (not the mayor, no, I worked for Warren Carstairs, the director of $&#c!@l &v&n%) -- my boss pushed me back into a corner where I eventually almost quit the City altogether. Almost gave up fifteen years of career, pension, retirement savings, health insurance, and a good job, because he wasn't happy with me. The mannish batch didn't give a dam about me or my problems -- like all of us, only cared for self. He was all uptight because elephant republicans were coming to town and Warren was up to his neck in brown-nosing them & the mayor. I'm kind of pissed about the way he treated me. When I expressed misgivings about quitting so precipitously, he actually said to me, "Oh no, Carl, you've gotta go." I eventually swung a transfer to the water department where I handle sewage bills. Yum. But at least I'm free from the domain of the ice prince, swag kinggggggggggg....

but you know the real hell of it... is... I really like the guy, even though he took advantage of my emotional problems to get rid of me. It's much better I don't work with him....
