Gringo : Poems

smoke drifts...

smoke drifts over the tables
around the guitarist

on her bandstand

al fresco fingers pluck
and strum

a woman's hand in the crowd
raises her cigarette

you can still light up
in Mexico

even if it is outdoors

white cloud curling across
the floodlight dark

almost as delicate as those
tremulous notes

touching a smile to big
tobacco lips

but more healthy, no?
