![]() | Tijuana GringoSaturndaeg, 17 February 2001.Another weekend. Up the hill last night to the Casa de la Cultura. Some watercolors, which have been there a couple weeks, and the opening night of Daniel Ruanova's expo. |
This is one of mine. Photo edited.
Daniel has ventured into territory he calls "despintar" -- unpainting. Scratching paint off of pieces, while he has other works that he built and then desconstructed. Plastic works. Arte plastica, they say. Some of the pieces he encourages us to touch. The works opened in last night's inauguration were labeled "this is not to touch" or "this is to touch."
He seemed very emotional at the opening. The people who inaugurated the exhibition said some rather impressive things about him.
I didn't bother to talk much about it with Agustín. He has rather intense opinions about art. Should be beautiful, etc. Garbage is garbage, etc. Why do they do this, these new artists? Are they saying the world is garbage, because, well, yes it is....
Etc. Perhaps you agree. Or perhaps you're playing the "I'm hep to it so what?" game.
Hee hee hee.... Whatever the philosophy, I like Ruanova's work because it makes me think.
